When she was nine years old, Melody Browne's house burned down. As well as destroying all her possessions, the fire took with it all her memories - Melody remembers nothing before her ninth birthday. Now she hasn't seen her parents since she left home at 15. She's made a life for herself and her son and likes it that way. Until one night she faints at a hypnotist show - and when she comes round she starts to remember. Slowly she begins to piece together the story of her childhood.
